My First Royal Show Grand Parade

By Paul Phillips (seen here with Tammy Breuer)

I am Paul Phillips from Salisbury Park Stud in Blanket Flat NSW. Earlier this year I had the opportunity through Tammy Breuer of Allambie to take part in the Sydney Royal Show Grand Parade. Many a time have I sat in the stands and marvelled at the great event but I had never been part of it. It was very exciting.

Most of the team was going out so the preparation was intense. Everybody was finally ready and we moved around to the marshaling area. All the different breeds were all lined up ready to go. We were going out on to the arena second behind the Angus which were the feature breed. To get to that position we had to walk our cattle past all the bigger breeds which was a bit daunting. I was parading Allambie Cinnamont, a young heifer. She had never been in a Grand Parade either.

It seemed hours waiting whilst the main arena was cleared. Finally the gates opened and we were off. We made our way out on to the arena and walked around the outside of the grassed area of the full arena. As you walk through the tunnel you get the feeling of how huge the arena really is but as you walk it, it seems enormous. So many animals in the arena at one time. I thought it was a spectacle from the stand but it is a lot better being amongst everything.

We did a few laps which was good as I could see a lot in that time. Allambie Cinnamont was great. I recommend everyone should try to experience such a great event. In 2010 when Lowlines will be the featured breed at the Sydney Royal and we lead the parade of beef cattle, it will be stupendous.

I would like to thank Tammy Breuer from Allambie Stud for the amazing experience. I enjoyed every minute of it and I look forward to going in many more grand parades all over Australia with my own cattle.
